Aquarius — Navy / Custom Blue
Aquarius is China Seas doing ikat — the ancient resist-dye technique where threads are bound and dyed before weaving, creating that characteristic soft-edged geometry where color bleeds into color and no line is ever quite straight. The original technique produces its effects through controlled imprecision: you tie off sections of thread, dip the bundle in dye, and whatever the wax doesn't protect, the color claims. The result is a diamond or a zigzag that looks like it was drawn underwater — all the geometry intact, all the edges breathing. China Seas translates that quality into screen printing, which is its own kind of trick: using a precise process to reproduce something that was beautiful specifically because it wasn't precise.
Navy and custom blue on an ecru ground gives Aquarius a tonal quality — two values of the same family rather than contrasting colors — which lets the pattern do all the talking. The diamonds read as architectural from a distance and as textile up close, and the scale is generous enough that even on a medium tote you get enough of the repeat to understand the rhythm.
